ARTISTS
Elena McMillan
Elena Sonbok Macmillan brings over 30 years of rich artistic experience to her current role as an art teacher at CAK Middle School. With a teaching career that spans more than six years at the college level, she has developed a unique pedagogical approach, emphasizing right-brain drawing techniques to unlock creativity and observational skills in her students. Macmillan's extensive background in art is not only academic but deeply personal, reflecting a lifelong fascination with nature's transitory beauty.

Her artistic voyage commenced in the tactile world of 3D clay artistry, where she distinguished herself through her exceptional ability to mimic the textures of the natural world, lending her pieces an uncanny sense of life. As she expanded her repertoire to include drawing and painting, Macmillan continued to evolve her style. She doesn't just replicate nature; she infuses her works with vitality and movement, capturing the essence of nature's fleeting moments. Through her art, Macmillan invites viewers to witness the vibrant ballet of the natural world, creating works that resonate with the rhythm of life itself.

An experiment using soft pastels on stretched canvas. The texture of the canvas lent itself to the pastels quite well. The image is based on a photo taken by a friend visiting Venice, Italy. By using more vibrant colors than the original, I believe it became more magical.

After taking up mandala painting in my late 60's during lockdown I decided to experiment using fabric scraps withing the design. This is the result of my first try. I am going to expand on this idea in the near future once I obtain more fabric scraps.

Title or Location: New beginnings
I'm new to oils and painting, I would say my style would be fine art and surrealism, no rules and I can escape, experiment and have fun. I painted this scene as I'd came across a beautiful photo of calla Lilly valley in California, I use the idea but made it my ownwith the colours and changed parts of it, I like the perspective and the enchanting mysterious vibe it gave. Returned to art almost a year ago, still finding my way, but determined, excited and fully motivated to reach my potential,

Title or Location: The Boats at Sunset in Bradenton
I was at The Starfish Restaurant when I captured this view on a cold day in Bradenton Florida from the dock behind the restaurant. I was fascinated by the light coming from one of the boats and the gas pump. The photograph helped me to produce this oil painting when I got home in Ohio.
